Hidden Beaches in Mauritius That Travelers Don’t Usually Find

Hidden Beaches

Are you planning Mauritius holidays and looking to find something other than the ordinary? Well, you must know by now that the country is home to more than 150 well-managed beaches but the interesting thing is that some of them are hidden and many travelers usually don’t go there.

What it means is that it is a golden opportunity for everyone looking for some alone time with their family or partner. In this post, we will mention some of them and tell you what’s so special about each.

6 Off-the-Beaten-Path Beaches in Mauritius

I have personally visited the beaches mentioned below. If you love nature and privacy and don’t care about the modern facilities available at developed beaches, you are in for a treat. Or, if you want your beach time to be complemented with amenities, look for the developed beaches that are usually crowded with people from all over the world.

1- La Cambuse

The first beach I visited after booking my Mauritius Holiday Packages was this one. It is located quite close to the airport but is not frequented by tourists because of the lack of facilities and this is what makes it my favorite. I had my essentials with me and loved to stay here. The peaceful vibe of the beach is further augmented by the fact that you will find a few locals picnicking there or fishermen casting their nets.

2- Pointe d’Esny

My second encounter with the hidden beaches on the island was with Pointe d’Esny. The thing that I loved the most about the beach was its raw and pure nature. If you seek peace and calm, going here is a must. I am sure that you will lose yourself in its natural beauty. Apart from its amazing scenes and stunning views, the lagoon here is shallow and calm, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling and paddleboarding. While La Cambouse has no place to stay in the surrounding area, things are quite different when it comes to this beach and this is what I loved the most about it. You can book a night’s stay in one of the numerous villas and guesthouses that also offer direct access to the beach.

3- Îlot des Deux Cocos

All those looking to have an island to themselves and some secluded beach lovers like me are advised to head to Ilot des Deux Cocos. The small islet can only be reached by a boat which in itself is a journey to remember. It is great for day trips but if you want to stay for a night or two, there is a villa available here. However, make your call early as the rooms are usually occupied and availability is always a concern. Snorkeling and scuba diving are the best things to do on the island. The water surrounding the tiny and pretty island is included in a marine park, so a dive guarantee encounters with numerous coral and fish. And if you are lucky, you may also spot some sea turtles.

4- Belle Mare and Palmar

These are often considered as they merge into each other at one point. The combined beach is quite big and yet not too crowded, so there is a high chance that you will find the perfect spot as per your liking. Mine was under a tree near some rocks as it gave me the best views of the beautiful water. Palmar Beach is more versatile than Belle Mar. If you like a quiet atmosphere, then go to the southern tip as it is only visited by the local fishermen and tourists stay away due to its rocky nature. As you move towards the middle of the beach, you reach the most frequently visited spots with white sands. The town of Palmar is also nearby and has a wide variety of resorts in every budget.

After having my fill of Palmar Beach, I moved to Belle Mare, the resort is lined up with countless resorts. I would not suggest you go there if you are looking for secluded beaches. The beach is hardly visible from the main road. Plus, this is an area only for those who don’t hesitate to splurge during their Mauritius holidays.

5- Gris Gris

I would recommend this place only to the brave souls out there. The waves here are wilder than you would expect and they come crashing at the shore. Even the most advanced swimmers would think twice before taking a dip in these waters. It is a place for sightseeing but at a distance. If you love photographing wild waves, this is the place to be.

6- St. Félix

It is an undeveloped stretch of beautiful land and this is the reason why many people don’t go there. I suggest this beach for amazing views and privacy, especially for honeymooners. Just like the beach discussed above, this one is not ideal for swimming or water activities. The main purpose of going here is beautiful scenery and a serene setting. As the facilities are not too much, it is better to come prepared with all the beach essentials.
